5 Minutes with Faten: Thriving in Beauty Retail

When Faten first joined Fortem & Mode, she was new to both recruitment agencies and temporary work in beauty retail. A year later, she’s thriving. She recently secured a permanent, full-time role with Tarte Cosmetics in Sephora.

Faten came to us through a recommendation from her manager at Tarte. Someone who immediately recognised her natural talent for connecting with customers. Since then, she’s made a huge impact, building strong bonds with her team, managers, and a loyal group of customers who return just to see her. We caught up with Faten to hear about her career journey so far.

Taking the First Step

Faten’s journey into beauty retail began with a gentle push from those around her. Friends and family had always told her she had a natural gift for connecting with people; that she should work in marketing or beauty. But for a long time, Faten didn’t feel confident enough to pursue it.

That changed when she was encouraged to apply for a role with Tarte Cosmetics. It was her first experience working on a beauty counter, and from day one, it felt like the right fit.

“I realised I love talking to people,” Faten says. “I like helping them find what they need. It comes naturally to me.

One of the people who noticed her talent straight away was Bahar, her manager at Tarte. She played a key role in building Faten’s confidence and encouraging her to grow.

“Bahar is like an angel,” Faten says. “She kept encouraging me, saying I have something special with people and that I should keep going.”

It was Bahar who recommended Fortem & Mode to Faten, knowing the agency could open new doors and offer even more support.

“I love helping people,” she says. “Customers often tell me they feel welcome and comfortable around me. That’s just who I am. Patient, always smiling, and positive, even on quiet days.”

She’s especially proud of the trust she builds with customers.

“When I talk about Tarte products, I speak from the heart. Customers trust me because they know I genuinely believe in what I’m saying.”

Advice for Aspiring Beauty Retail Consultants

For anyone thinking about starting a career in beauty retail or working with Fortem & Mode, Faten’s advice is simple: “You have to love the brand or product first. When you love it, customers will trust you. Also, learn as much as you can about the products: ingredients, benefits. That knowledge helps you connect and build loyalty.”

Now settled in her permanent role, Faten is excited about what’s next: “I want to keep growing, learning, and helping customers.”
